This is the square tiling pattern in the kitchen. Because the kitchen pattern was basically a big square, and because we wanted to emphasize lines and space, I laid out this simple square of darker border tiles with 3 by 3 pieces of 18-inch (450 mm) Italian porcelain tile inside. The tile outside the pattern is turned at a 45 degree angle to the inside. The idea was simplicity and subtlety, repitition of basic design elements, and adaptation to each of the three spaces.

It's done! Just kididng. Started setting the tile today. Of course it takes longer than I thought. Hopefully I can finish setting the tile tomorrow and start to grout on Monday. This gives you a good idea of how it will look when it's done. The only difference is that the grout we chose is very light in color. Right now the lines between the tiles are dark.
